Sharad Purnima: the most potent full moon to manifest
शरद पूर्णिमा
Part 1
Sharad Purnima: What is the significance in Vedic tradition?
Welcome to Sharad Purnima, the one full moon where the the moon is expressed in all of it's 16 kalas. It occurs in the Vedic month of Ashwin (around October), and marks the start of Autumn. It is closely overlapping with the pagan festival of Samhain (which was later named to Halloween to dilute it's nature worshipping origins).
Full day and night Sunday October 25th in England, and US as per the sunrise time. Starts midday on Sunday in Indian time, continuing past sunrise on Monday. Therefore both Sunday and Monday will be observed as Sharad Purnima in India with the main night being Sunday evening.
The moon is in it's most blessed state tonight - it is literally streaming nectar. So make sure you charge your crystals, your moon water, and make the most of it with the sacred rituals in this membership.
In Vedic astrology, the Moon is in Pisces, the water sign of nourishment and abundance. This makes it a key moon to work on the way you emotionally relate to abundance. How can you feel more abundant in your daily life? How do you align to a deeper state of receiving and trusting in the universal flow of abundance that is accessible at all times?
The moon is in Revati the last Nakshatra of the Zodiac which symbolises completion and prosperity. What's interesting is that both Pisces and Revati are related to fish. Fish are deeply related to the way we flow and allow new forms of abundance to arrive into our lives - including in our interpersonal relationships and self care. Since Revati is also related to safe transitions, this is particularly significant for anyone going through a major life transition. Connecting with the rituals of today are all about shedding self-doubt and instability, and aligning to a much deeper cosmic current of trust to upgrade to your next level of life.
Later on in the day, the moon then moves into the first Nakshatra of Ashwini, and into the sign of Aries in Vedic astrology. This means it still has a strong theme of healing and nourishment, but the Aries fire (ruled by Mars) is giving us motivation to actually create the change that is required to bring about the nourished state and self love that we need to lay as a foundation for our abundance.
Both of the full moon signs are meaningful and tell us what is evolving inside of ourselves in this portal.
_________________________________________
There are several beautiful accounts of what happens on this sacred night in the ancient Puranic scriptures of Sanatan Dharma. The oldest being that on this night, the moon rains down amrit (nectar of immortality and healing) from its rays. The Moon governs our subconscious mind, emotions, womb, and even plant medicines. THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST LIFE GIVING NIGHTS OF THE YEAR TO RESTORE YOUR ENERGY.
Sharad Purnima is also celebrated in some traditions as the night of divine leela with Shri Krishna and Radha, representing the fullest expression of divine love and creation in the universe. So this is also a time to do manifestation rituals to call in your divine dharmic life partner, should this be a relevant theme for you.
Simply staying awake the entire night and asking Goddess Lakshmi to show you the path to your most abundant, conscious and dharmic aligned life will put on a new timeline. For the specific rituals, please explore the next lessons in this module!
Wishing you a nourished full moon :)
Part 2
Your Moon Rituals for Sharad Purnima
Let's get into the key moon rituals to do tonight for healing, manifestation and connecting with the sacred Amrit (nectar) of the moon
Number 1: the traditional Kheer offering to Lakshmi
Kheer is a traditional Ayurvedic dish which is made with indigenous A2 cow milk and organic rice. In today's day, this dish has been diluted with the use of factory farmed milk from hybridised cows and the modification of our organic food systems. So the first step you can take towards your abundance is find out the best option for Vedic indigenous cow milk near you.
If you are not in India, you can opt for other types of milk. Although the indigenous desi cow milk is specifically categorised as Sattvik, in emergency situations you may use an alternative. I tend to use goat milk because it has far less karmic baggage than that of factory farmed cows. Moving on,
How do we prepare kheer and how do we keep it?
The Kheer is cooked with the rice, milk, organic natural sugar, saffron, cardamom and other beautiful spices. Feel free to add what you want. Each spice has it's own meaning, and are related to Goddess Lakshmi, the moon and auspiciousness.
Once made, leave this Kheer out during moon rise so that the rays contact the food. You can keep it partially covered or covered with a very light cloth. Consume the Kheer the next morning.
Number 2: abundance + healing moon water
Moon water is a great way to ingest the energies of the moon and keep them flowing throughout the year. I still have moon waters that I've made months ago, and their potency is still the same. Here's a special recipe for moon water just for Sharad Purnima that you can create for yourself!
Since the main theme for this moon is actually restoration and healing, in addition to abundance, we are going to use aligned herbed and ingredients. If this is your first moon water, you can also buy the ingredients and keep them prepared for the next full moon - and use what you have now! Remember, there is no rush in this journey. It is a lifetime journey. That's why it is called Sanatan Dharma (eternal cosmic intelligence).
Ingredients for your moon water:
1. Pure edible grade rose water, rose essence or rose petals (add this to your water with the intention of healing and purifying your heart, and connecting to your own self love) 2. Cardamon (add this to your water with the intention of expanding your joy and abundance) 3. Saffron (add this to your water with the intention of activating your inner dharmic and natural intelligence)
This is a potent combination to add to your water. After it is done, set it out on your terrace or in your garden so it absorbs the rays. Speak positive affirmations over the water and offer it at the feet of Maa Durga, asking for forgiveness for any mistakes.
Before sunrise, take it in your house and keep it for the rest of your month / years!
Number 3: charging yourself
To charge yourself, stand out in the moon rays for at least 45 minutes. Follow this visualisation sequence for Sharad Purnima (we will have a video guide for the next one!):
1. Imagine that that you are sitting inside a huge pink lotus. Sit comfortably on a meditation mat or yoga mat outside where you can get the moonrays.
2. Whilst you are sitting inside this lotus, imagine that beautiful healing white light is streaming down from the moon into your head.
3. Visualise that this healing light is filling up all your organs. Concentrate on areas of your body where you feel you are holding tension or you need healing. See that all your tensions are dissolving and offer gratitude to Maa Ganga.
4. Once complete, put your hands on the earth and say "I am loved and supported by the universe. I trust in my own natural intelligence."
Jai Maa
Part 3
Expand Your Abundance: Sharad Purnima Journalling Prompts
Your essential journalling prompts for this full moon, channeled from today's Vedic astrology. Sit with these journalling prompts with a timer, and give at least 5 minutes to each one.
Take a new notebook or page for this full moon, and a coloured pen of your choice that is not black. Each colour of the pen is related to different frequencies.
Today's journalling prompts are going to help us identify what's blocking your abundance; to understand how different areas of your life are inter-related, and to step into a deeper frequency of receiving.
Journalling Prompt 1: Identifying the contraction factors
Write down the top 3 situations in which you feel your energy contract, where you feel limited, threatened or unsafe. Identifying these situations is very important to grasp where the energy is stored and release it. You can still navigate external situations with boundaries, this is purely about YOUR INTERNAL ENERGY. For example, this could be in crowded spaces. Then write down what the pattern is that is causing you to contract. Feeling like your own aura is being overshadowed by others? This is where the work actually gets started. We will dive deeper into this, because this is a journey. Stay with it. After you're done with this exercise, simply offer all your contractions / fears into the feet of Bhairava and ask that he dissolve them.
Journalling Prompt 2: Identifying the expansion factors
When do you feel the most expansive and full of light? This could be when you are dancing, painting, speaking, making content. What feels truly light and natural to you. Each person has their own unique qualities, and what often blocks up from quantum leaping is forcing ourselves in activities we should be doing for work but neglecting those which align us to the vibration of expansion.
Key insight: Jupiter is the planet of expansion. Seeing where Jupiter is located in your house will give you more insights into this. We will dive into this in the later part of this month as Jupiter moves into a new sign!
Now write down 3 ways you can expand more into this vibration with small 5 minute commitments. The. key is to anchor in the shift now, even in increments. That's what creates the multidimensional expansion.
Journalling Prompt 2: Your highest state of nourishment
Seeing as this moon is in Revati which is ruled by Pushan, the great nourisher - we are wanting to focus more on the nourishment aspect of manifestation rather than hyper focusing on the material. Write down in your journal what a full nourished day would look like for you in your optimal life. Include every small detail like the health and high quality organic food you are eating, the natural make up and self care essentials you have, the environment you are in, being in nature, the clothes you are wearing. Focus on particularly how this feels. Remember, this is conscious manifestation because we are NOT manifesting the nice polyester skirt you saw on a designer brand. You are manifesting what is natural, stylish, conscious - and yes that will come into being. The feeling of being naturally nourished, beautiful, aesthetic and in your full expression. Through this manifestation, you are tapping into your nourish-rooted abundance as opposed to survival-rooted abundance. The best thing is that this also shifts the frequency of the planet.
Jai Maa Tara!
Part 4
Vedic Ritual for Sharad Purnima (at home)
Listen: Sanskrit transmission
Yes, there are hundreds of Vedic rituals that you can do both at home and have arranged for you by experts. I recommend both avenues. But the focus of this membership is to focus on what you can do yourself, which restores your connection to your spirit and intuition. This is self-empowerment.
The main Goddess of this full moon is Mahalakshmi. She is also Radha Rani. In the Sri Vidya traditions, this full moon is deeply related to Maa Lalitha who is also the great cosmic nourisher; and in Kashi, Mata Annapurna who also nourishes the whole universe. Today, our ritual will focus on Maa Lakshmi.
This is a simple 10 minute ritual. Our ritual complexity will increase as we go along. Remember, complex doesn't necessarily mean better. Both simple and complex have their place.
For this ritual you will need:
1. Roses or beautiful flowers like lotuses 2. A picture / murti of Goddess Lakshmi 3. A meditation mat 4. A2 ghee diya / cold pressed sesame oil diya (lamp) 5. Natural organic incense
If you are unable to access the lamp, you can also use a natural scent candle as a replacement. Please steer clear of any form of paraffin wax or artificial fragrance.
Ritual steps:
1. First light the lamp and incence 2. In your mind, remember Ganesh and the feet of Guru Dattatreya or Guru Dakshinamurthy form of Shiva 3. Take a moment to centre yourself and breathe 4. Hold the flower in your hand and ask Goddess Lakshmi with the affirmation (Sankalapa): Maa Lakshmi, please show me the path to loving myself fully and completely. Please heal the wounds of self neglect and insecurity in every part of my being. Open me up to receiving the fullest abundance, joy and natural health in my life, and show me the path to do so. I offer this at your feet with complete surrender.' 5. After this, you can listen to the Goddess Lakshmi Shloka which will be uploaded here in my voice, channeled in Sanskrit. This will be channelled at 5pm GMT (in subsequent drops they will be one day in advance) with a quick guided mediation to anchor in the energies.
Why is this effective? Because it is small and targeted. Rather than elaborating on N number of things and doing 3 hours of hardcore manifesting, you simply offer yourself to the divine mother and affirm the state that you need to align into your highest dream life and vibration. Everything has it's place, and yes you will feel the shift!
Jai Maa
With love, Kamya
